Christmas turkey (or Christmas roast chicken) is traditional but If you’re bored of having a standard Christmas dinner with roast poultry and the trimmings, try introducing a different type of cuisine for family dinner. The sky is really the limit here, so ask around about what foods people might like to eat instead. Have a family board game tournament instead of a typical dinner

Instead of a typical family Christmas dinner where you show up, eat, and then unwrap presents, why not have something a bit more fun and competitive? A family board game tournament—or just a family board game night, if you want to leave the competition out of it—can be a great way to break up the Christmas day monotony. If you want, have the end goal of the tournament be something charitable in honor of the Christmas season: every adult family member who plays in the tournament donates £10, then at the end the winner gets to pick charity to give all their “winnings.”

Exchange presents throughout the winter season instead of all on one day

Exchanging gifts can make great family memories, but opening them all in one go is time consuming—not to mention a bit boring for others. Instead of opening everything on Christmas day, why not have family members give gifts throughout the winter season? Make it fun by having family members surprise each other with who gets to open a gift that day.

If you don’t want to have the same-old-same-old family Christmas party that you’ve always had, you can make it a truly memorable night by transforming the host’s home into a “movie theater” for a grand movie night.
